TREATMENT OF WORKERS - Guilded age: poor working conditions, safety hazards, faculty owners did not care for the employees, low pay. - Progressivism: abolished child labor, minimum of a 10 hour work day (Muller v. Oregon), minimum wage and workers compensation 2. BETTER TREATMENT OF WOMEN - Guilded age: Seen as housewives, primary job was to take care of the children, unable to vote - Progressivism: War allowed women to take ahold of what they wanted - gained the right to vote in 1920. Had to fill in men's positions while they were off at war - turn of century new leaders like carrie Catt and Alice Paul 3. BETTER TREATMENT OF THE IMPOVERISHED - Guilded: poor people were seen as people who were willing to work more for less money than other citizens - were taken advantage of by dangling income in their face - Progressivism: Urban reform - Provided welfare services, built homeless shelters, provided free kindergarten. - philosophy that is social conditions were good then people would be good
