Q

Summarise the primary structure of protiens.

Structure of Protiens (primary)

A

sequence of amino acids that make up polypeptides.
* condensation reaction occurs between the carboxyl grp and one amino acid.
* Covalent bond forms between the two acids and a water molecule is produced.-> Dipeptide molecule produced.

Q

Summarise the secondary structure of protiens.

structure of protienss (secondary)

A
  • Primary structure eith coils into a alpha (α) helix or folds to form a beta(β) bleated sheet.
  • Secondary structure are held in shape by hydrogen bonds.

Q

Summaride the Tertiary structure of a protien

A

Forms when the secondary structure coils and folds.
* Protien becomes 3D structure held by many different bonds and interactions between the R groups of amino acids which are adjacent to each other.
* Di-sulfide bridges (S-S) occur between two sulfurs.
Sulfur atoms are present in the amino acid R group cysteine.
* Important in determining how enzymes work
