Matched Pairs?
Participants were matched with control group on age, sex and sz. This allows for some control of participants variable.
But they weren’t matched on everything like ethnicity as it’s impossible to get perfect matched pair so still some influence from participant variable.
Sample?
41 NGRI murderers and 41 control group
Not big, but good for this research.
NGRI murderers are not representative of all types of violent crimes so lacks population validity.
Ethics?
Consent- NGRI, reduced sentencing? Not for research purposes? Not valid? Insane?
Protection from harm- off their medication which could lead to future psychotic episodes and their emotional state could’ve worsen leading to suicidal thoughts.
Social implication?
Legal challenges- dangerous?
Brain scans mitigate responsibility, potentially freeing dangerous offenders OR unfairly convicting others.
