Calcareous oozes
Made from calcium carbonate and associated with mid ocean ridge and rise
Siliceous oozes
Form from silica. More common in deep ocean floor
Transform plates
2 plates slide past each other and crust is neither created or destroyed. Ex: San Andreas fault
Abyssal plane
Deep seafloor covered by terrigenous sediments. It is flat because thick sediments smooth out the irregularities
Why are the continents so old and the ocean crust so young?
Constant creation of new seafloor at divergent plate boundaries and there is constant subduction happening beneath the less dense continental crust. Continental crust doesn’t subduct the same way
