Stress reaction or fraction of pars interarticularis in the lumbar spine resulting from repetitive hyperextension
L5 is affected 85-95% of the time, L4 5-15 percent
Spondylolisthesis
This is the result of the progression of spondylolysis when chronic non union of bilateral pars defects cause forward translation or slippage of one vertebra on the next
- Most common at L5 to S1
