Regulating Translation Flashcards

(2 cards)

1
Q

What process can inhibit the translation if mRNA?
How?

A

Inhibited by RNA interference (RNAi)
-mRNA molecule that has already been transcribed gets destroyed before translation (to make polypeptide chain)

done by a small interfering RNA (siRNA)

2
Q

Explain RNA interference

A

-an enzyme can cut mRNA into siRNA
-one strand of siRNA combines with another enzyme
-siRNA-enzyme complex binds via complimentary base pairing to another mRNA molecule
-once bound, enzyme will cut up mRNA so cant be translated
