16
Q

What is the lung?

A

Organ in the body where gaseous exchange happens

17
Q

What are the alveoli?

A

Tiny air sax for gases exchange

18
Q

Name the five steps of What happens as youre inhaling

A
  1. The intercostal muscles contract, causing the ribs to move up and out.
  2. The diaphragm contracts and moves down.
  3. The volume of the lungs increases.
  4. The pressure on the lungs decreases.
  5. Air is sucked in.
19
Q

Name the five steps of exhaling

A
  1. Intercostal muscles relax, causing the ribs to move down and in.
  2. The diaphragm relaxes and arches back up.
  3. The volume of the lungs decreases.
  4. The pressure on the lungs increases.
  5. Air is forced out.
20
Q

Where does gas exchange happen?

A

In the alveoli

21
Q

Draw a diagram of an alveoli

22
Q

How does gas exchange happen in the alveoli? (4)

A
  1. Alveoli have thin walls that allow for gases to diffuse easily through them.
  2. Alveoli are surrounded by thin capillaries that carry gases to and from lungs.
  3. Oxygen in the alveoli moves into the blood in the capillary.
  4. Carbon dioxide and water move into the alveoli from the blood in the capillary.
23
Q

How many breaths per minute does the average adult take?

24
Q

How does the nose help the lungs?

A

The nose filters and moistens air before it reaches the alveoli in the lungs

25
How do the trachea bronchi and bronchioles assist each other?
They work together to bring air down to the lungs and up from the lungs
26
How do the intercostal muscles and diaphragm help each other?
These muscles contract at the same time to draw air into the lungs and relax at the same time to push air out of the lungs
