ROP screening

• safer than laser in type 1 ROP with better refractive outcomes
• still under study and unknown side effects

First line of treatment; laser therapy
treatment reverses ROP about 90% of the time
laser produces small mild burns to areas of the retina without good blood supply and this stop abnormal blood vessels from growing further
New treatment; Anti-VEGF
- intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF such as bevacizumab diminish the neovascular response / stop the growing of blood vessels
