White blood cells leukocytes They identify and attack bacteria, viruses and other pathogens
31
Which part of the body has the thinnest skin?
Eyelids
32
How long can a human brain survive without oxygen?
About 3 - 6 minutes before permanent damage occurs
33
Which organ stores the bodies blood supply in case of emergency?
The Spleen Which can release extra blood during heavy bleeding or exercise
34
Which part of the human body is most sensitive to pain?
The fingertips and lips due to dense nerve endings
35
Which human sense diminishes fastest with age?
Hearing, especially the ability to hear high frequency sounds
36
Where does fat go when you lose it?
Passes as water through your urine, sweat or other fluids & you breath it out as carbon dioxide
37
When you feel dizzy, why does sitting down help?
It stabilises your balance Keeps blood flow steady to the brain Prevents falls Less muscle fatigue
38
What is a lumbar puncture?
A lumbar puncture is a procedure where a needle is inserted into the lower spine to collect cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It is done to diagnose conditions like infections, bleeding, or neurological disorders, and sometimes to treat problems by relieving pressure or delivering medication directly into the CSF.
39
What is sepsis?
Sepsis is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that happens when the body’s response to an infection becomes extreme and starts damaging its own tissues and organs. What happens in sepsis Normally, your immune system fights infections caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. In sepsis, the immune response goes out of control, causing widespread inflammation throughout the body. This can lead to: • Tissue damage • Organ failure (such as kidneys, lungs, or heart) • Dangerous drops in blood pressure If it gets worse, it can lead to Septic shock, where blood pressure falls so low that organs cannot get enough oxygen. Common causes Sepsis usually starts from an infection such as: • Lung infections like Pneumonia • Urinary tract infections like Urinary tract infection • Abdominal infections • Skin infections • Blood infections Symptoms to watch for Symptoms can appear quickly and may include: • Fever or very low body temperature • Fast heart rate • Rapid breathing • Confusion or difficulty staying awake • Extreme pain or discomfort • Clammy or sweaty skin • Low blood pressure
40
Paracetamol
1. Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) • Reduces pain and fever. • Safe for most people when used as directed.
41
Ibuprofen
2. Ibuprofen • Non‑steroidal anti‑inflammatory drug (NSAID). • Reduces pain, fever, and inflammation.
42
Aspirin
3. Aspirin • Pain relief, anti-inflammatory, and blood thinner for heart attack/stroke prevention. • Not recommended for children due to risk of Reye’s syndrome.
43
Antibiotics
💉 Antibiotics (fight bacterial infections) 1. Amoxicillin • Used for ear infections, strep throat, urinary tract infections. 2. Azithromycin • Common for respiratory infections. 3. Ciprofloxacin • Broad-spectrum, often used for more serious infections. ⚠️ Important: Antibiotics do not work against viruses, so they’re only for bacterial infections.
44
Diabetes
🩹 Diabetes Management 1. Metformin • Most common first-line medicine for type 2 diabetes. 2. Insulin • Essential for type 1 diabetes and some type 2 cases.
