Q

what is a dependant variable?

A

depends on the independant variable what you measure, (stem height, number of leaves, leaf colour, etc….)

6
Q

what is the function of a leaf in this experiment?

A
  1. Make food through photosynthesis
  2. Absorb sunlight
  3. Exchange gases (CO₂ in, O₂ out)
  4. Release water through transpiration

Q

What is the function of a stem in this experiment?

A
  1. Supports the plant
  2. Transports water and minerals from roots to leaves
  3. Transports food from leaves to rest of the plant

Q

What is the function of the roots in this experiment?

A
  1. Anchor the plant
  2. Absorb water and minerals from the soil
  3. Store food and nutrients

Q

How does the independant variable salt affect the plant?

A
  1. the salt dries out the water so the roots dry out.
  2. The leaves turn yellow or brown due to the water shortage
  3. Stem: Growth slows weak stem development
  4. overall effect is that the plants wilt and may die

Q

How does the independant variable Oil affect the plant?

A

1.it blocks Soil oxygen so roots can’t respire properly
2. Leaves: Wilt due to lack of water
3. Growth slows, nutrients cannot move efficiently
4. Overall effect: Plant may stop growing or die

Q

How does the independant variable Acid affect the plant?

A

Roots: Nutrient absorption blocked damaged root cells
Leaves: Yellowing (chlorosis) from nutrient deficiency
Stem: Stunted growth
Overall effect: Poor overall plant health

Q

What is a Control?

A

A control variable is a factor or element in a scientific experiment that researchers keep constant and unchanged to ensure that only the independent variable affects the dependent variable,

Q

why did we use control’s in this experiment?

A

It shows what happens under normal conditions.

In your bean plant lab, this would be the plant grown with plain water and normal soil.

It allows you to see the effect of the independent variable (like oil, salt, or acid).

It makes the experiment fair and reliable because you know the results are caused by the changes you made, not something else.
