Introduction
On June 28 1914 archduke Franz ferdinand and his wife Sophie visited Sarajevo in Bosnia. One gang of Serbians known as ‘the black hand’ planned to assassinate the archduke during his visit.
Step 1
AFF and S arrived at Sarajevo train station at 9.28am. they were driven towards the town hall to meet the mayor. Crowds lined the streets and the car drove slowly so that the royal couple could wave to the people.
Step 2
Seven black hand assassins waited for the car by the Cumurja bridge. As the car passed, one of the Serbians threw a bomb at the couple. The bomb missed and blew up the car behind. The archdukes car sped off to town hall
Step 3
The archdukes cancelled the rest of the visit but he decided to check on those injured by the bomb. At 11:00am he got back in the car and drove past a café, as they passed the driver was informed he took a wrong turn. He stopped to turn around
Step 4
After the bomb attack the assassins split off into crowds by coincidence one gang member 19 year old gavrillo princip was outside the café . He took out a pistol and shot Ferdinand in the throat and Sophie in the stomach. They were both killed
Why did Austria hungary attack serbia
They blamed them for killing the archduke
Why did Russia prepare to attack Austria hungary
Because they promised to protect Serbia against attack
Why did Germany invade belgium
They asked if they could march through Belgium to reach France but Belgium said no to them. Germany went through anyway
Why did Britain declare war on germany
Britain who has a deal to protect Belgium from attack declared war on germany
The outbreak of war has been compared to a row of falling dominos why
The comparison is made because a series of events happened one after the other in quick succession. Each action by one country (a ‘domino’ falling) triggered a reaction from another country, leading to a chain reaction that quickly resulted in a widespread war involving many nations.
Did gavrilo princip start ww1
No, Gavrilo Princip did not start the First World War by himself. While his assassination of the Archduke was the immediate trigger for Austria-Hungary to attack Serbia, the text shows that other long-term causes and existing alliances between countries led to the war escalating. The war was caused by a complex series of events and agreements, not just one person’s actions.
Short term causes
Assassination of the Archduke.
Austria-Hungary blaming and attacking Serbia.
Russia preparing its army to protect Serbia.
Germany declaring war on Russia and France.
