In standard form contracts, if a term is unusual or overly onerous, the party seeking to rely on it must take reasonable measures to draw it to the attention of the signing party. A signature is merely evidence of assent; if the offeror knows or ought to know the offeree did not read the document, they cannot rely on the signature alone.
This case is highly exceptional.
Trial courts still sometimes try to get around this decision.
