What do our muscles need to work?
Our muscles need energy, a steady supply of oxygen and good building and repair to work efficiently.
Where does our energy come from?
The energy comes from foods, which is mainly carbohydrates which are converted to glucose in the body.
The muscles and liver store glucose as glycogen. This then can be converted back to glucose for the use during exercise.
What is aerobic respiration?
Aerobic means with oxygen, and for this sort of respiration, your body’s usual intake of oxygen is enough to give your muscles what they need.
How does aerobic respiration work?
Glucose and Oxygen are brought to the muscles via the blood, where respiration takes place and energy is released.
The waste products - Carbon dioxide and water - are absorbed by blood and taken away.
What is the aerobic respiration formula?
Glucose + Oxygen –> Energy + CO2 + Water
When does anaerobic respiration occur?
When your muscles have to work really hard, a different process begins
