Q

What is the function on a sperm cell and how is it adapted to complete this?

A

Fertilise an ovum (egg)
- tail to swim to the ovum
- lots of mitochondria to release energy from respierstion enabling the sperm to swim

Q

What is the function of a red blood cell and what are it’s adaptations?

A

Transport oxygen around the body
-no nucleus so more room to carry oxygen
-contains haemoglobin that bines to the oxygen molecules
-flat bi-concave disc shape to in crease surface area to volume ratio

Q

What is the function of muscle cell and how is it adapted to do this?

A

Contract and relax to allow movement
-contain protein fiebres that contract to make cells shorter
-contain lots of mitochondria to release energy from respiration allowing the muscles to contract

Q

What is the function of a nerve cell and how is it adapted to do this?

A

Carry electrical impulses around the body
- branched endings called dendrites to make connections with other neurones
-myelin sheath insulates the axon to increase the transmission speed of electrical impulses

Q

What is the function of a root hair cell and how is it adapted?

A

Absorb mineral ions and water from the soil
- long projection speeds up the absorption by increasing the cell surface area
- lots of mitochondria to release energy for the active transport

Q

What is the function of a palisade cell and how is it adapted?

A

Enables photosynthesis in the leaf
- lots of chloroplasts containing chlorophyll to absorb light energy
- locales at the top surface of the lead where it can absorb the most light energy
