A

Respond with 1 of the 7 basic responses.

Following conversation/an answer, OT assumes position of attention, gives the greeting of the day, and salutes as appropriate.

A

A

Highest rank.

If all of the same sex, greet as a group (Ladies/Gentlemen).

When do OTs salute?

A

Indoors: Only when formally reporting-in to a commissioned staff member’s office/cubical or upon receiving an award at an awards ceremony. Only salute enlisted staff during Open Ranks Inspections.

Outdoors: When passing an officer in conversation, render a salute but do not interrupt with the greeting of the day.

Not required when staff/OTs are in PTG, but greeting of the day must be rendered.

What do OTs do during “Reveille” and “Retreat”?

A

When outside and it is safe and appropriate, stop and face the flag (if visible) or the music. Stand at parade rest and then come to attention and salute during the National Anthem or “To the Colors.” If driving, stop if safe and appropriate and sit quietly until music ends.

What do OTs do during the National Anthem?

A

If outdoors, face the flag (or music, if flag is not visible) and render a salute until conclusion. Saluting outdoors in civilian clothes is permitted, but not required.

During indoor ceremonies, assume the position of attention facing the flag, but do not salute.

If in civilian clothes (indoors or outdoors), assume the position of attention and place the right hand over the heart.

During PT, Leadership Exercises, or Warrior Events.

Where is talking permitted in Academic Buildings?

A

Talking is not permitted outside of classrooms unless making on-the-spot corrections to other OTs or giving the greeting of the day.

Quiet talk is permitted in the flight room prior to instruction.

How to OTs navigate hallways in Academic Buildings?

A

OTs march in single file, at the position of attention, on the right side of the hallway.

No facing movements on carpeted areas.

How will OTs conduct themselves in the Personnel Action Center (PAC) and the Independent Duty Medical Technician (IDMT) Waiting Area?

A

Remain seated and read OTS SPINS until called.

How will OTs enter the auditorium?

A

Fill the seats starting at the front according to the seating arrangement assigned by OT leadership. Remain standing at ease, quiet, and studying OTS SPINS until instructed to take seats.

How is the auditorium opened?

A

The class leader comes to attention at the center-front of the stage and states “STANDBY.” All materials and SPINS are put away. Then the class leader calls the room to attention when they see the instructor approaching.

How is the auditorium closed?

A

The class leader comes to the position of attention, marches to the center-front of the stage, and commands, “Class, prepare for dismissal.”
OTs put away materials and stand at parade rest. Class leader calls them to attention.
When the instructor leaves, they command “CARRY ON” and the class responds “ALWAYS WITH HONOR” – the class leader gives the command if the instructor doesn’t.

How to OTs ask/answer a question in the auditorium?

A

Remain seated and raise their hand.
When recognized, the OT stands at attention, provides the greeting of the day, states OT + last name, asks/answers the question, and stands at ease until the dialogue is complete or invited to sit.

What do OTs do when an officer enters or exits the lecture room when a lecture is not in session?
Come to attention. The first OT to see the officer calls the room to attention. OTs can prepare using the "STANDBY" command.

How do OTs report?
Center themselves on the threshold of the door/cubicle entrance and knock once. Once acknowledged, enter and use the most direct route to the staff member. Center themselves two paces in front of the desk, salute (if an officer), and give appropriate reporting statement.

How do multiple OTs report?
One OT salutes and states "Sir/Ma'am, OT Last Name plus # of OTS reports as ordered." When departing, OT who reported in salutes as appropriate and gives the greeting of the day.

What is the AETC Form 341? How many does an OT carry?
The Excellence/Discrepancy Report. It may be used to address positive or negative performance. Each OT carries a minimum of two copies.

Small Marching Unit
Formation of two to four OTs. In formations with 3-4 OTs, the tallest is in front and on the right. In formations of two, the tallest is to the right. In a SMU the person on the right carries the guidon. In a SMU, all salute and render courtesies as appropriate. SMUs use the preparatory command "Detail, ...." The OT calling commands responds to their own commands in an SMU.

What is Motivational Training (MT)?
Physical exercises to motivated trainees to follow OTS standards/expectations.

Flight
Formation of eight or more OTs. Includes a designated Flight Leader and a guidon bearer. Two-four elements, normally march with two on the OTS complex. The Flight Leader renders military courtesies for the formation.
