Splitting Brain (Split-Brain Research)
When the connection between the brain’s two hemispheres is severed (usually the corpus callosum) to study how each side functions independently.
Corpus Callosum
A large band of neural fibers connecting the two brain hemispheres and carrying messages between them.
Split Brains
A condition resulting from surgery that isolates the brain’s two hemispheres by cutting the corpus callosum; helps researchers study how each hemisphere works on its own.
Dual Processing
The principle that the brain often processes information on two levels at the same time — a conscious, deliberate level and an unconscious, automatic level.
Blindsight
A condition in which a person can respond to a visual stimulus without consciously experiencing it — caused by damage to the visual cortex.
Neuroscience
The scientific study of the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and how they influence behavior and mental processes.
Parallel Processing
The brain’s ability to process many aspects of a problem simultaneously (like color, motion, and shape in vision).
Sequential Processing
Processing one piece of information at a time; used for solving new problems or tasks that require focused attention.
