What is STCW?
STCW is the International Convention of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. It set an international minimum standard for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping
Part A = mandatory requirements
Part B = Recommended guidance and advice on how to meet the mandatory requirements
The convention also regulates watch-keeping arrangements, minimum rest hours.
What are the Manila amendments in 2010?
The Manila amendments are where the STCW was updated, including;
- New parts of the code including licensing and certification, operations, manning, training and changes to work and rest hours.
