If one bearing wall gives away while the other remains intact, the floor will drop at the end that fails. Everything on the floor will be thrown into a heap at the low end. There is an excellent chance of survival for persons who were on the floor below if they were near the remaining wall. People on the following floor may also survive if heavy objects don’t crush them. The smallest chance of survival is for anyone on the lower floor in the vicinity of the failed wall 11.4.

The walls and the floors above usually remain intact, although any floors below may collapse because of the weight of the fall debris.
