Only proportional force should be used weapons should not be too destructive It must be declared by a legitimate authority example(by a state or soveriegn government) There must be a resonable chance of winning and bringing lasting peace It must be a just cause such as self defence It must be the last resort having tried to solve the dispute The right intention-The aim of the war must be to bring back peace. It is believed to prevent a greater evil Behaviour of troops-Innocent civilians should not be attacked
23
5 main reasons why the Catholic Church opposes weapons of mass destruction?
They are completely indiscriminate(they can kill anyone not certain people) and have long term effects They are totally disproportionate to any possible sucess that may come(the negative outways the positives) Pope Benedict XVI said thst with WMDs the chance of success is small and that there are no victors only victims The cost of researching, building and maintaining these weapons are really high this could be spent of the public Possesion of these weapons increases tension and fear making the world less safe
24
3 main consequences of modern warfare?
Civilian casualties The Catholic Church teaches that it is wrong for civilians (who has fought) to be attacked or threatened as they should be protected Refugees The Catholic Church believes that refugees should be allowed and protected by all countries. The Church actively campaigns for governments and individuals to help all that come that way and example of this eould be the Syrian crisis Environmental damage Catholic Church believes that the people have a responsibilitu to limit any damage done to the environment..
