Time And Event Sampling Flashcards

(6 cards)

1
Q

Define event sampling in observations.

A

Recording each time a specific behavaiour happens during an observation.
counting every time a child hits another child in the playgound during a 30 minute observation.

2
Q

Strength of event sampling.

A

Useful when behaviour happens infrequently → less likely to miss behaviours → ↑ internal validity. (AO3)

3
Q

Limitation of event sampling.

A

If behaviour is complex/frequent → observer may miss some behaviours → ↓ reliability. (AO3)

4
Q

Define time sampling in observations.

A

Observer records behaviours at set time intervals, e.g., every 2 minutes over 1 hour → tally behaviour only at that interval. (AO1)

5
Q

6
Q

Limitation of time sampling.

A

Behaviours recorded at intervals may not represent overall behaviour → ↓ representativeness. (AO3)
