Q

Ensure they ensure their child gets enough omega oils in their diet to promote maturation of the pre-frontal
cortex.

A

Parents should ensure they provide their children with
nutritious meals including omega oils regularly (or
give them omega oil supplements) so their brains can
mature properly and reduce the chance of later
aggression and crime.
Raine’s Mauritius studyvshowed that omega oils led to lower levels of delinquency, aggression and attention problems.

Q

Get their children doing regular exercise and providing them with cognitive stimulation.

A

Regular daily exercise of 30-60 minutes a day
involving structured games and also involving some
strategy should improve brain activity - e.g. signing
the children up to dance classes and sports clubs so
they can get the exercise and cognitive stimulation
needed to stimulate brain development.

Less cruelty and anti- social behaviour was shown in Raine’s
Mauritius study at ages 11 and 17 following the intervention. This should mean their pre-frontal cortex receives
stimulation and develops properly.

Q

Don’t smoke when
pregnant

A

Avoid exposing children to cigarette smoke as this
might lead to brain damage in the unborn child and
increase their risk of criminal behaviour – if trying for
a baby, go to stop smoking services, use nicotine
replacements, etc. so they won't be tempted to
smoke when they actually get pregnant. Don’t go out
in places where there is lots of cigarette smoke.

Brennan et al found that smoking during the third trimester of pregnancy was a strong predictor of the persistent criminal behaviour amongst male offspring (in Copenhagen).
