Q

Genesis

A

Genesis is the book of beginnings: creation, fall, flood, nations, and the patriarchs. It shows man’s ruin by sin and God’s covenant grace in choosing Abraham and promising that through his offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed. The gospel is seen early in the promised seed of the woman who will crush the serpent, and in God’s covenant promise that ultimately lands on Christ.

Q

Exodus

A

Exodus tells how God redeems His people from slavery, brings them through the sea, and forms them as His covenant people at Sinai. It reveals the Lord as Redeemer, Lawgiver, and God who dwells with His people. The gospel shines in the Passover lamb, the deliverance by blood, and the tabernacle, all of which point to Christ.

Q

Leviticus

A

Leviticus teaches how a holy God can dwell among a sinful people through sacrifice, priesthood, cleansing, and atonement. It presses the holiness of God and the need for mediation and blood. The gospel is everywhere here, especially in the sacrificial system and the Day of Atonement, both fulfilled in Jesus our great High Priest and final sacrifice.

Q

Numbers

A

Numbers records Israel’s wilderness journey, marked by unbelief, rebellion, judgment, and God’s faithfulness. It is a sobering picture of the visible church struggling between promise and possession. The gospel appears in the bronze serpent lifted up, in God’s preserving grace, and in the hope of the coming Star from Jacob.

Q

Deuteronomy

A

Deuteronomy is Moses’ covenant renewal sermon, calling Israel to remember, love, and obey the Lord before entering the land. It emphasizes covenant blessings and curses, the centrality of the Word, and the need for heart circumcision. The gospel appears in the promise that God will raise up a prophet like Moses, fulfilled in Christ, and in the hope that God Himself must change the heart.
