a buried erosional or non-depositional surface separating two
rock layers of different ages, representing a gap in the geologic
record known as a hiatus.
Unconformity
a geological boundary where younger,
flat-lying sedimentary rock layers are deposited over older, tilted, or
deformed rock layers that have been eroded
Angular unconformity
a little harder to discern: it is not as obvious as the other unconformities as thisoccurs between parallel
sedimentary layers
Disconformity
represents an
erosional surface separating rocks of different types. The erosional
surface will separate igneous and/or metamorphic rock from
overlying sedimentary rock
Nonconformity
type of geological unconformity (a gap in the
rock record) characterized by parallel bedding planes above and
below the break, with no apparent erosion or structural tilting
Paraconformity
