  • Will – Futuro não planejado:
    Ex.: I believe that’s too heavy for you. I will help you with that box. (decidi naquele instante)
    Ex.: I will buy a house
  • Will – Previsão sem evidência no presente:
    Ex.: My birthday is on July 26 and it will be a cold day, I believe. (mas ainda estamos em março)
    Ex.: It will rain at christmas. It always does!

Going to: uso

A
  • Going to – Futuro planejado:
    Ex.: We are going to travel to Italy in July. (há planos – talvez pacote comprado, reservas ok, etc)
    Ex.: I am going to buy a house
  • Going to – Previsão com evidência no presente:
    Ex.: The lion is going to reach that zebra. (percebo que o leão corre mais rápido que a zebra)
    Ex.: Look at those clouds. It is going to rain

Ex.: Jack will be working at 10 tomorrow (ele já estará trabalhando nesse horário; o trabalho começa antes das 10 e terminará após esse horário)

Time Clauses

A

Intenção de futuro, verbo no presente.
Ex.: Wake me up when September ends
Ex.: So wake me up when it’s all over
Ex.: I will stay home if it rains tomorrow
Obs.: as duas sentenças trazem ideia de futuro (quando o mês de setembro terminar / quanto tudo estiver acabado) mas os verbos não são conjugados no futuro.

Phrasal verb: definição

A
  • Um verbo + preposição ou advérbio, e seu sentido é bem diferente daquele do verbo original.
    Ex.: She gets up at 7 every day.
    Obs.: O sentido de get up não tem nada a ver com o do verbo get.
    Ex.: He turned up yesterday (apareceu)
    Ex.: I get on with kids very well (lido, dou)
  • Algumas vezes o sentido pode ser literal:
    Ex.: The baby looks up when we sing that song.
    Mas na imensa maioria das vezes o sentido foge bastante do literal.
    Ex.: An epidemic broke out (surgiu)
    Ex.: Look up the answer (procure)

Podem ter duas ou três partes, dependendo do número de elementos que o formam:
1) Duas partes – The company laid off hundreds of employees. (demitiu)
2) Três partes – Let’s keep up with the good work. (continuar com)

Posição do objeto com o Separable Phrasal verb

A

o objeto poderá vir entre os elementos ou após todos os elementos. Mas se este objeto for um pronome oblíquo (me, you, him, her, it, us, you, them), apenas entre os elementos do phrasal verb.
Ex.: Turn the radio off. (Correto)
Ex.: Turn off the radio. (Correto)
Ex.: Turn it off. (Correto)
Ex.: Turn off it. (Errado)
Obs.: Se há um objeto para o verbo e outro para a preposição, cada objeto vem junto ao que este se refere.
Ex.: He set his dogs on the criminals.

Como é formado o Subjunctive?
Infinitivo sem a partícula “to”, em todas as pessoas. Ex.: It’s important that she arrive earlier tomorrow. Ex.: It’s essential that he read a lot. Ex.: It’s *desirable* that we not *disturb* him now (desejável, perturbar). Obs.: God save the Queen. (subjuntivo implícito: Espero que Deus salve a Rainha) If I need to work late hours today, so be it. (então que seja) If he were me, he would know what to do. (verbo to be com outra forma)
