Q

What does ANSI/TIA/EIA 568 identify in a structured cabling system?

A

Work Area- The space where user equipment is located and connected to the network.

Horizontal Cabling- Connect user work areas to a IDF, typically consists of the cabling for a single floor and is made up of cables that run horizontally through wall ducts or ceiling spaces.

Telecommunications Room- A room that houses IDF and networking equipment, stores only networking equipment and termination point for horizontal cabling.

Backbone Cabling- Connects IDFs to the MDF, referred to as vertical cabling because it is likely to run up and down between floors

Entrance Facilities/Demarc- Special type of telecommunications room marking the point at which external cabling is joined to internal cabling, via the MDF.

Q

What is a service loop and what is its purpose?

A

It is a extra length of cable at both ends of a cable run and it allows for adjustments, reconnections or changes in the future without needing to install new cabling.
