“A period of time” (initialization/definition, preparation) -> project start process.

Project launch ~ formally launch the project at a specific point in time.

Why is the project start more complex in external projects than in internal projects?

Answer 2

External projects are more complex due to:

• typically require formal bidding
• potential contractor gets a more or less precise customer specification without any knowledge of the project history
• crucial to develop a common understand of the sponsor’s requirements
• preparing the offer is very time consuming and costly
• the decision to prepare an offer must be considered carefully
