- The AN/FCC-100 is a multiplexer/demultiplexer which supports up to sixteen data inputs. Used for multiplexing multiple data paths/circuits for transport across a single path.
207.2 State the purpose and explain the two modes of operation of the AN/WSC-3:
- The AN/WSC-3 is a UHF transceiver used for voice, data, and teletype (TTY). It can operate in in two modes: Line-of-Sight (LOS) and SATCOM. Replaced by DMR.
207.3 State the purpose of the AN/USC-61C (DMR):
- The Digital Modular Radio is a software programmable transceiver, capable of configuration to operate anywhere in the 2 – 2000 MHZ range for transmit, and 100 KHZ – 2000 MHZ range for receive. It has backwards compatible with legacy radios, crypto and military standards.
207.4 Define and explain the concept of DAMA:
- The UHF Demand Assigned Multiple Access subsystem provides users with increased communication capacity by time-division multiplexing of several digital data sources over one satellite channel. This allows platforms equipped with the proper equipment to timeshare the satellite channel.
207.5 Define the following DAMA Operation Modes:
a. AC - Automatic Control allows communication slots within the waveform to be dynamically assigned to terminals.
b. DC - Distributed Control Mode in which a terminal’s access to a communications slot is preassigned. (Not used at NCTAMS)
207.6 Define and discuss JMINI:
- The Joint Military Satellite Communications Network Integrated Control is the hardware and software suite used by the NCTAMS-SMC to manage 5-kilohertz (kHz) and 25-kHz DAMA networks. It is a multiplexer controlling the technical configuration of the DAMA satellite channels to provide functionality of the system.

- The SATCOM Signal Analyzer is a real-time shore-based signal processing system used for monitoring authorized users and analyzing RF interference within the Navy UHF Satellite Communications.
207.8 Define and state the purpose of the following:
a. VoIP - Voice over Internet Protocol allows delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet.
b. DSN - Defense Switched Network provides global voice services through a worldwide dedicated telephone service.
c. DRSN - Defense Red Switch Network provides the President, Secretary of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, combatant commanders and selected agencies with command and control secure voice and voice-conferencing capabilities up to the Top Secret SCI level.
d. POTS - Plain Old Telephone System is an un-enhanced telephone service with the ability to send and receive phone calls. POTS has been available for more than 100 years from analogue telephones prior to the introduction of electronic telephone exchanges into the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
e. APTS - Afloat Personal Telecommunications System, also known as Sailor Phones. This system provides personal telecommunications service to shipboard crewmembers at sea.
f. STE - Secure Terminal Equipment, previously known as STU-III phones. This system is a low-cost, user-friendly, secure telephone device. It provides secure multi-media communications for voice, data, video teleconferencing, and gateway access to secure enclaves or remote access to secure data.
