- Inform IC and 2nd ladder of missing position
- 2nd ladder to pick up missing assignment
IF 1st OV POSITION IS MISSING AND 2nd TRUCK HAS 5 FFs
- 2nd OV will pick it up and 2nd Roof picks up 1st OV position

AUC 207 ADD 10: SOUND POWERED TELEPHONES AND DRY STANDPIPES

C) Each standpipe cabinet and sound powered phone outlet jack box shall be opened to observe if the locking device shows any signs of vandalism.

5) Surface fires burn grass, weeds, trees and leaves on the ground.
They are fast moving fires and are the most common type.
6) Bog fires burn slow and deep. May burn for days.
7) Crown fires burn along tops of trees. Rarely occur in NYC.
8) Engine companies responding to Staten Island Brush Fire box
100D-400D and Second or greater alarms bring 2 Indian pumps and
4 fire brooms.
AUC 159: HURRICANE AND SEVERE STORM EMERGENCIES
1) Phase A is the activation phase

AUC 180: MANHOLE FIRES AND EMERGENCIES
Code 10-25 = Manhole or Transformer Fire or Emergency
No code = Situation other than Code 1,2,3,4
Code 1 = FIRE has extended from manhole, conduit, transformer into a
building.
Code 2 = Fire has blown one or more covers, or smoke issuing under
pressure.
Code 3 = Smoke seeping from a manhole
Code 4 = Fire or smoke from a transformer, any type (pole, vault, room)
1) Within the capability of a single unit (ETA > 30 min)
A) Officer in command may leave one unit on scene
B) Unit on scene can respond to alarms leaving one member on
scene.
C) One member left at scene and units return to quarters
(company officer provides relief for members)
D) Manhole protected by cones and tape2) Multiple Incidents in Area
A) DC may authorize one or more units relieved from response
assignments.

“CORE” “Stairs/Man/Stairs/Man”
1) LCC - bottom of subway entrance (STAIRS). If token booth clerk is
within 50 yards of stairs to the street, contact train dispatcher
through the clerk. (There is a telephone in the token clerk’s
booth). The LCC should relay the token booth phone number
to the Truck Officer in case it is necessary to call the booth
from a blue light telephone.
2) OV - The foot of the stairs leading to the platform if it in within 50
yards of the LCC (MAN).
3) Roof - Approximately 50 yards from the (STAIRS) on the platform
4) Engine Officer - Approximately 100 yards (line of sight) from the Rolf
FF (MAN)
5) Truck Officer - to the location of the fire
6) Additional HT equipped members every 100 yards if necessary
AUC 207: SUBWAY OPERATIONS
1) General
A) FD personnel will NEVER be permitted to operate on track areas
unless assured that power is off.
B) This rule may be ignored only if LIFE IS IN IMMINENT PERIL.
C) Whenever evacuation of passengers will take place at a location
other than a station, power shall be ordered off.
D) Positive assurance of power off will be verified through the FDNY
DISPATCHER.
E) The 1st consideration on arrival at an operation involving
electrified track will be to determine whether the power is to
remain on or be turned off.2) Not affected when power is removed:
A) Lights in the right of way
B) Station lights
C) Signals
D) Drainage equipment
E) Tunnel Ventilation Equipment
F) Train headlights
G) Interior subway car lights may be on or off, not to be used as an
indication that power has been removed.
H) If power is reported off prior to FDNY arrival, verification must still
be made via FDNY dispatcher.
I) NEVER assume power is off when railroad personnel are working
on a 3rd rail. They are trained to operate when the tracks are "live"3) Engine Operations
A) Do not connect to a hydrant until the fire is located.
B) Many operations will require more than 1 engine company die to
long stretched. ALL efforts will concentrate on stretching and
placing the initial line before backup lines are ordered.
C) FT-2 Nozzle to be used4) Communications (CORE - Stairs / Man / Stairs / Man)
A) Chauffeur - bottom of entrance stairs at token booth if 50 yards of
the stairs.
B) OV - Foot of the stairs leading to the platform if it is within 50
yards of the LCC.
C) Roof - Approximately 50 yards from the stairs on the platform
D) Engine Officer - Approx. 100 yards line of sight from Roof FF
E) Additional HT equipped members every 100 yards as necessary5) Elevated Roadways
A) When possible, small fires in elevated ties should be extinguished
via handlines from the street below.
B) Do not extend the Aerial and TL behind the railing where they can
be exposed to moving trains.6) Emergency Exits
A) Identified by a prism shaped sign or cluster of white lights.
B) Notify dispatcher prior to entering for inspection and/or
operations. Dispatcher will notify MTA.
C) May be used for operations, however, evacuating passengers will
ALWAYS be given priority use of stairs.7) Blue lights
A) Near the blue light will be a power removal box, a telephone and
an extinguisher.
B) Power removal box may be under the blue light, in the area of the
light or across the tracks.
C) Power removal box operated by a pull down lever.
D) Telephone operated by depressing the handset button. It must be
kept depressed at all times during the conversation. RELEASING
THE BUTTON WILL TERMINATE THE CALL.
E) If power is shut using the power removal lever, transit personnel
must be notified via the phone.8) Access to Subway Stations
A) Red globe - there may or may not be a token booth clerk at this
location, and the stairway will be closed at some
point during a 24 hour day.
B) Green globe - The entrance is open 24 hours a day. There may or
may not be a token booth clerk at this location.
C) High Exit Entry Turnstiles (HEET) - Opened with 1620 key9) Light Train
A) Must be ordered by the CHIEF IN CHARGE of the operation.
B) Primary means of communications is via the TRAIN OPERATORS
RADIO.
C) Train Operator's radio is removable and will operate from any
Train Operator's compartment in any car.
D) Progress reports from the light train required at least every 15 min
E) Light trains shall not travel past the next station without e
permission of the Chief in charge.
F) The rig of the unit who boarded the light train should remain at its
original location until directed to another location by the IC.10) Sound Powered Phones
A) Outlet jacks located in secure metal box that can be opened with
a 1620 key (Usually inside the standpipe cabinet)
B) Headsets will not be found inside the boxes. They must be
provided by FDNY units.
C) Units equipped with phones shall bring the handset, a 1620 key
and a subway emergency key to the station platform level.
Another set must be brought to the street level outlet box.
D) Sound powered phones may augment the standard handie talkie
relay procedure.11) Subway Standpipes
A) Located inside a locked stainless steel cabinet at the platform
level that can be opened with the subway emergency exit key.
B) Cabinet will not contain hose
C) Both the standpipes and phones inspected during semi-annual
subway emergency exit inspections.
D) Any defects found are reported to the Public Transportation
Safety Unit via am A-8. 12) Emergency Evacuation Device
A) 7 feet long with steps on one side and a flat surface on the
backside.
B) Located at the first blue light south of the southbound platform
(usually within 50') in underground and grade level stations.
C) Located at the full time token booth at elevated stations
D) Can be used as a stairway to evacuate passengers from a train to
the roadbed, an evacuation stair to access the platform from the
roadbed, or to form a bridge between two trains.
