List the boiler trips?
Explain boiler safety features and systems?
Explain calorifier maintenance?
What tests would be completed?
Describe furnace cut out / flame detector?
It is a critical safety device. As soon as it senses there is no flame by using infrared detection, it will alarm and stop the supply of fuel being sprayed into the boiler
Cause of low water alarm?
What do you do if calcium builds up in the water?
What care and management of auxiliary boilers?
Explain construction?
Pressure vessel - cylindrical and high quality steel
Water tubes - Arranged in bank for max heat transfer and stainless steel
Burner - Provide Diesel or HFO
Combustion chamber
Steam drum - Holds steam and water above the water tubes
Economizer - exhaust system which heats the feed water, reducing waste heat
Safety devices
Insulation to reduce heat loss
Explain blowing down sight glass?
Explain chemical cleaning?
A diluted acid solution is circulated through the boiler to dissolve and remove scale build up
Why is the alkalinity important?
Alkalinity is a critical parameter in boiler water chemistry that influences corrosion control, scale prevention, steam quality, and water treatment effectiveness
How would you check the level if both sight glasses were scaled up and no remote indication?
Firstly I wouldn’t get it get this far. But sight glasses glass can be changed.
I would try a blow down procedure.
If still scaled, I would isolate the cocks on the steam and water then change the glass
No suction on PD pump, No suction on centrifugal pump?
PD - sucking air, needs priming or blockage
Centrifugal - damaged impeller, needs priming, blockage or cavitation
How often do you test the water and why?
Weekly water tests
