What is the handover procedure, is there any legislation?

Answer 1

• Go to the engine room and have an induction of the engine room
• Look over log books, tank levels, oil record book, ensuring all is signed and upto date
• Discuss with the engineering department of any known issues and information
• Sit down with the captain and 2nd engineer to discuss work list, project and time frame
• Meet with project managers to discuss contractor schedules and ship yard schedules to find out any major issues or items that need attention.
• Check all safety procedures are followed and implemented
• Inspect all engine room certificates are up to date
• Print your copy of standing orders and sign
• Start working on a job list and plan
• Create a list of questions that you need more information/ clarifying with the Captain/ Project Manager or Engineering department.
