Bulk transport
Large molecules e.g enzymes cannot be transported through channel or carrier proteins instead they’re moved into and over cell using another form of active transport
Two types of bulk transport
Endocytosis- transports of materials into cells
Exocytosis- transports of materials out of cells
Endocytosis
Process which large molecules at once are transported into cells
What does endocytosis do?
Cell surface membrane engulfs materials to form a vesicle then moved into cytoplasm where materials are processed
2 forms of endocytosis
Phagocytosis- uptake of solid materials
Pinocytosis- uptake of liquid materials
Exocytosis
Process which large molecules at once are transported out of cells
What does exocytosis do?
Vesicles move towards and fuse with the cell materials released outside of the cell
Gets rid of waste products e.g carbon dioxide
