A pulling sheave
34
If you have to use cable lube what should you make sure of?
That it doesn’t damage the cable and make sure the lubricant is following whatever rules the authority having jurisdiction has for it
35
How far back should you apply cable lube
1m or 3.3ft back
36
What does using a swivel help prevent
The cable from twisting as it’s being pulled forward
37
Why should you always use proper cable management when making bundles?
To avoid creating excessive outside noise interference (axt)
38
What is the performance of the channel rated at?
The lowest performance component Example. If cat6 is terminated into cat 6 outlets but only cat 5 patch cords are used then the channel will only be valid to support cat 5 applications
39
For patch cord management how many ru’s is recommended per every two ru’s of patch panels
2 rus of 90mm of cable management
40
Should you try and keep the minimum bend radius of your cable when pulling?
Always
41
What does an IDC connection permit
It permits the termination of an insulated conductor without stripping insulation from the conductor
42
What are the two types of contacts connectors typically have
IDC AND IPC Most connectors use IDC designed for solid conductors while modular plugs also may use IPC’s designed for stranded conductors only
43
What are the three common modular connectors used in ICT
4p4c 6p6c 8p8c
44
What does 4p4c stand for and what is it used in
4 position 4 contact connectors and it’s primarily used for telephone handset cords
45
What are 6p6c connectors used for?
6 point 6 contact connectors are used primarily for phones and modern line cords
46
When installing ICT equipment what must the installer make sure of
The installer should make sure that what’s being installed has matching or compatible performance with the connecting hardware.
47
How are modular plug IPCS for stranded conductors designed?
They are designed using a single blade to penetrate the conductors insulation and slide between the individual strands
48
A color code?
White/green, green, white/orange, blue, white/blue, orange, white/ brown, brown
49
B color code?
White/orange, orange, white/green, blue, white/blue, green, white/brown, brown
50
When terminating how much cable should you strip off?
1 inch using a crimping tool or UTP cable stripper
51
What are the 4 types of IDC termination blocks?
66 style block 110 style block BIX style block LSA style block
52
How do you avoid making severe changes of twist rate
By not making a sharp turn crossing its mated conductor at a 90 degree angle
53
When terminating cat 5e and higher how close should the twist be maintained
It should be maintained up to the termination point but untwisting shall not exceed .5in away from the termination point
54
When terminating cat 3 cable how close should the twist be maintained up to the termination point
Within 3 inches from the termination point
55
What style of backboard may the 66 style block be mounted on?
On back boards with either 89 style bracket. (89b and 89d)
56
How is cable routed for a 66 style connecting block.
It’s routed through the 89 brackets to allow the pairs to be fanned out from the rear into a the guides in the side of the block
57
Are Bridging clips cat 5e complaint
They are not
58
Does the 110 style block contain the idc itself
No it does not because the idc for this termination is in the C-2(2-pair), C-3(3three pair), C-4(4 pair) and the C-5(5 pair l) terminating clip or connector block that is punched down on top of the 110 block
59
What’s does lsa stand for?
No solder, no use of screws, no insulation removal
60
What are the three tools you can use to remove cable sheathing
Snips, ringing tool, slitter tool
61
What does BNC stand for and how long has it been used for
Since the 1940’s and it stands for Bayonet Neill- concelman
62
What are the theee types of BMC connectors
Two piece and three piece crimp One-piece compression( recommended) Screw on
63
How far back should you strip coax cable?
.25 inches
64
What is a splice?
The joining of copper conductors or optical fiber cable strands from two cables at a point not considered a termination point
65
Where are intrabuilding splices usually performed?

They’re not recommended for splices of more than 50 pairs. They also aren’t to be used in category complaint installations
69
Name the three major types of splice closures and their definitions
Straight- connecting cables straight through in a line by line manner Branch- three or more cables entering a splice case from both directions in which cable pairs or optical fiber strand counts move from sheath to sheath Butt- two or more cables that enter a splice case from the same direction.
70
Name the two common modular splicing techniques
Inline and fold back
71
How are wires placed with the inline splicing method
They’re placed in a straight across arrangement and allows for little to no wire slack. This method is not designed to be rearranged and should receive minimal handling
72
What does the fold back method allow for?
It allows the conductors to be folded into the splice. It also allows maintenance, rearrangement of conductors and transfer of conductors. It typically requires more cable to be stored within the splice and could increase the size of enclosure.
