Circletory System Flashcards

(18 cards)

1
Q

WHat does the circulatory system consist of

A

Heart

Blood vessels

Arteries- “a” for away from heart

veins-deoxiginated blood to the heart

capillaries-delicate blood vessels that deliver nutrients and oxygen to cells throughout your body

Blood
Red blood cells- trasports oxygen and dioxiginated blood

White blood cells- immune system to fight

Platelets-Stop bleeding by forming blood clots

Q

Cardiovascular system Definition

A

the body’s network of the heart, blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries), and blood that transports oxygen and nutrients to tissues and removes waste products like carbon dioxide.laptic acid uric acid

Q

Arteries- Definition

A

any of the muscular-walled tubes forming part of the circulation system by which blood (mainly that which has been oxygenated) is conveyed from the heart to all parts of the body.

Q

Vein Definition

A

any of the tubes forming part of the blood circulation system of the body, carrying in most cases oxygen-depleted blood towards the heart.

A

a small colourless disc-shaped cell fragment without a nucleus, found in large numbers in blood and involved in clotting.

Q

Red blood cells-

A

a type of blood cell that are responsible for carrying oxygen in haemoglobin from the lungs to the body’s tissues and transporting carbon dioxide waste back to the lungs to be exhaled

Q

What are the 6 functions of the ciculatory system

A

Respiration-Delivers oxygen to the cells and removes carbon dioxide from them.

Nutrient transport- Carries digestive food substances to the cells of the body eg vitimens minirals sugar fats and protien

Waste removal- Disposal of waste products and poisons that would harm the body if they accumulated
Eg, Carbon dioxide, urea ect

Immunity- Helps protect the body from dieses

Cellular Communication- The circulatory system provides a mode of transport for hormones
eg insulin, estrogen, growth hormones

Thermoregulation- The circuatory system transports heat to warm and cool the body

Q

Formula for the amount of blood pumped by heart

A

Heart Rate X Stroke volume (amount of blood per pump ml) = Cardiac output (CO) in L

17
Q

Difference between an elite athlete and normal

A

elite athlete
low heart rate and higher stroke volume (amount of blood per pump)

bigger cardiac muscles

normal person
higher heart rate and lower stroke volume
