  • First 2021 vintages released in 2025
  • The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano “Pieve” wine can only be produced inside the
    municipality of Montepulciano, but not in the Valdichiana area.
  • 12 Zones: Specific, named areas (Pieve) based on geology and geography.
    The “Pieve” wine must originate from vineyards that are at least 15 years old, located at an
    altitude between 250 and 600 metres above sea level, and managed by the wineries
    responsible for its bottling

  • From 1st January of the year following the grape harvest, the wine must be aged for a
    minimum of 3 years.
    During these three years, the wines are first aged in wooden barrels for a minimum of 12
    months and then bottle-aged for a minimum of 12 months.
    The wine will be tested chemically, physically, and for its organoleptic features after the
    bottle ageing has been completed.

  • The ruling could affect the producers of some flagship wines which will no longer be accepted
    as Gran Selezione. Wines from producers such as Castello di Ama -( Vignetto la Cassucia &
    Castello Ama San Lorenzo) which both contain a blend of Merlot.
    Isole & Olena- (Cepparello) blended with Cabernet Franc & Syrah.

Explain rules of Casauria DOCG ?

  • The Casauria DOCG was formerly a sub-zone of the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC.
  • The third DOCG of Abruzzo. The area of the Casauria DOCG is situated in the
    foothills of the Apennines inland from the coastal town of Pescara.
  • Vineyards are located at elevations up to 600 metres.
  • The DOCG is approved for dry red wines only.
  • Grape variety: 100% Montepulciano
  • Minimum alcohol: 13%; 13.5% for Riserva
  • Ageing: Aged for a minimum of 18 months.
    Riserva must be aged for a minimum of 24 months (from November 1st of the
    harvest year).
    Production, ageing, and bottling must occur within the designated production zone.
  • This is Italy’s 79th DOCG / November 2025

  • Cirò Classico DOCG is an aged version of the red wines from the Cirò DOC,
    approved for red wines only.
  • Production: limited to the municipalities of Cirò and Cirò Marina, along
    the coastal hills bordering the Ionian Sea
  • Grape varieties: minimum 90% Gaglioppo; up to 10% Magliocco and/or
    Greco Nero
  • Minimum alcohol by volume: 13%
  • Ageing: Aged for a minimum of 36 months, calculated from January 1 of
    the year following the harvest. A minimum of 6 months in cask
  • July 2025

  • New regulations permit Fiano di Avellino DOCG to produce sparkling wines
    within the appellation.
  • Fiano di Avellino Spumante DOCG and Fiano di Avellino Spumante Riserva
    DOCG will be available based on the same grape varieties as the still wines
  • Grape Varieties: minimum 85% Fiano, with up to 15% (max) Trebbiano
