• Add Nitrates to prevent corrosion by creating a film on the pipework which prevents oxygen from corroding the metal.

• Test the PH (8-9) (slightly alkalinic)

• Test Chlorides <50ppm max but preferably <30

Purpose of expansion tanks?

For thermal expansion and contraction of the liquid and to ensure we have sufficient static head pressure at the suction side of the pump to prevent cavitation
Can also dose chemicals and detect leakages if continuously having to refill

How to backwash cooler and why would you do it

Answer 3

SW cooler - close SW inlet, open backwash

You would do it if the cooler is suspected as being clogged up by marine growth if cooling water temp is high
