A

There may be a deadzone where the ship and dock think the other is responsible for firefighting
It needs to be clearly decided exactly when the responsibility is handed over.

What are sacrificial anodes?

A

Little blocks of metal attached to the ship which corrode to protect the steel

How do sacrifical anodes work?

A

They are ignoble (highly corroding) metals, which corrode faster than the ships’ steel when immersed in salt water

The anode forms a “galvanic cell” with the metals it is protecting and is eaten up by this process

A

Inform Ship’s master
Inform Dock Master
Make a plan, the block may need to be removed

How can a block be removed in drydock?

A

Place 2 blocks either side of the block to be removed
Use shims on new blocks to take weight off old block
Remove old block

All done slowly slowly with input from the drydock team

Same as any other tank (enclosed space) Workers to enter in clean gear (shoe covers, tyvek suits etc)
