What is “culture”
Characteristics shared by people that make them a recognisable group in society, with a shared sense of identity
What is “diversity”
Understanding that each individual is unique and recognising individual differences
“Cultural Humility”
The ability to approach and interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds with an open mind and humble mindset.
“Cultural safety”
The creation of an environment where individuals feel safe, respected and free to express their cultural identities without discrimination or harm.
“Intersectionality”
The cumulative way in which the effects of multiple forms of discrimination combine, overlap, or intersect, especially in the experiences of marginalised individuals or groups.
“Disability”
Persons with disabilities include those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
“Neurodivergent”
Refers to individuals whose neurological development and functioning differ from what is considered typical. This includes autism, adhd, dyslexia, FAS etc
