Fiberoptic endoscope is inserted through the oral cavity into the descending duodenum then to the bile duct and finally the pancreatic ducts are cannulated

Diagnostic, pre- or post- cholecytectomy, stent placement, stone manipulation/removal

Pre-Procedure

Answer 3

1. NPO 8 hours
2. Ensure consent is signed
3. Conscious sedation or anesthesia
4. Anesthesia administered immediately prior to and during procedure

Post Procedure

Answer 4

1. Monitor VS
2. Monitor for signs of perforation or infection
3. Monitor for signs of pancreatitis
4. Monitor gag reflex
