The retina edge near the iris, AKA Peripheral retina (need to smush the eye to see it)
How many layers does the retina have?
10
Cause of RH in AHT
Vitreoretinal traction
In infants the vitreous has very strong attachments to the macula, peripheral retinal and blood vessels
Pre-retinal hemorrhages
Occure BETWEEN the retina and vitreous (aka a subhyaloid hemorrhage)
On exam, the blood vessels underneath are obscured
Intraretinal Hemorrage
Superficial: “flame shaped” (fibers of retina)
Deeper: “Dot blot” (cellular)
Subretinal hemorrages
Under the retina, darker and deeper
Vessels are above the hemorrhage
Terson Syndrome
Seenin sudden increase of ICP
Peripapillary (optic nerve head) hemorrhage noted, papilledema,
extensive RH not seen
Purtscher retinopay
INcreased intrathorascis pressure (crush)
Polygonal white retinal patches
