Emergency Evac Procedures
Apparatus Operators Sound Air Horn
A. Signal to consist of repeated short air horn blasts for 10 seconds.
B. Followed by a 10-second period of silence.
C. To be executed 3 times.
D. Total air horn evacuation signal including periods of silence that will last 50
seconds.
E. IC shall designate apparatus to sound evacuation signal.
F. To be done in conjunction with “Emergency Traffic.”
Level 1 staging
First-due engine, truck and battalion chief respond directly into the scene unless
directed otherwise.
A. Shall be optional for first alarm incidents.
B. Shall be implemented by first-in officer when necessary to accomplish the
objectives listed above.
C. Designated apparatus shall be positioned one block from the incident scene in
the direction of travel or at the closest
Level 2 Staging
A. Shall be mandatory for greater alarm incidents unless IC or Operations Section
Chief (Ops) has directed all greater alarm units to respond directly to the scene.
B. IC, Ops or the first unassigned engine arriving on the greater alarm shall
establish and designate a Staging Area location.
