Q

Bradford Assay

A

Tests for protein presence: Red “bradford” solution mixed with a sample, and if it’s positive for protein, it will turn blue. Can be checked for absorbance value using spectrophotometer, so technically quantitative.

Q

Iodine Test

A

A sample is tested for starch presence. Sample is mixed with iodine: if product has no starch, product remains as the yellow-brown color of iodine. If starch is present, product turns bluish black (due to the coiled structure of starch). QUALITATIVE.

Emulsion Test

A

A sample is tested for presence of lipids. dissolved in ethanol, then water is added. If lipids are present, a cloudy white emulsion forms. QUALITATIVE

Q

Independent Assortment

A

During metaphase I of meiosis I, Tetrads line up along the metaphase plate. The parental or maternal chromosome has a 50% chance of ending up in either one of the daughter cells that result from meiosis I.
i.e. it’s not all maternal chromosomes going to one cell and all paternal going to the other: there’s a mix.

Q

Benedict’s Test

A

Tests a sample for presence of “reducing sugars”. Mix sample with blue benedict’s reagent, then boil the solution. turns brick red if positive. Qualitative.
