• Significant Dose saving others
• Protect valuable property
• Sampling that redefine/adjust Protective actions to public

• Property 10 REM
• Life 25 REM
• Dose 25 REM

• Personel have qualifications/ experiance relevant to mission
• Personel aware of risks
• Should be > 45 years old
• NO declared Pregnant woman
• emergency exposure ONCE in lifetime (cannot volunteer twice)

What are the PSE (planned special exposure) annual and lifetime radiation limits?

What conditions warrent a PSE?

Annual

• Whole body = 5 REM
• Skin = 50 REM
• lens eye = 15 REM
• extremity = 50 REM

Lifetime

• 5 times annual

Exceptional situations that if not taken care of may lead to severe problem to plant (early s/d), high rad lvls. Not used in emergency situations.

if a rad worker is already at his annual rad limit of 5 REM whole body can he still recieve a PSE (planned special exposure)?

Who approves PSE’s?

Yes, PSE are separate from and in addition to (accounted for separately) annual federal limits.
