what is mitosis
form of nuclear division involving the split of a parent nucleus in two to form two genetically identical daughter nuclei
mitosis can occur in haploid or diploid cells
both
pmat
prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
stage 1 prophase
nuclear membrane starts to break down. double stranded chromosomes are visible in the cell. spindle fibres begin to form at the end of the cell.

stage two metaphase
nuclear membrane is completely broken down. chromosomes line up along the middle of the cell. spindle fibres attach to the middle of each chromosome
diagram : vertical line
stage 3 anaphase
spindle fibres contract and pull the chromosomes apart into two genetically identical strands. the spindle fibres pul these strands to opposite ends of the cell, now there is genetically identical material at both ends of the cell.

stage 4 telophase
