Q

Why the NHS?

A

I think its a very meaningful and personally rewarding to me. Having the opportunity to contribute — directly or indirectly — to improving people’s lives and health outcomes is something that really motivates me. Knowing the work that i carry out can support better patient outcomes for everyday people gives me a great sense of purpose.

Secondly the NHS is an organsation very close to my heart. I was treated as a patient at this very trust (in RMCH) little over a decade ago, and without the compassion and dedication of the clinicians who treated me, I might not even be here today. So having the opportunity to give back is extremely motivating.

The fact that the NHS has such a diverse workforce with so much expertise in every corner attracts me. Ive always been a keen learner and i beleive this is a place where i can develop the best and learn as much as possible throughout my career. Everyone from all different backgrounds working towards the same mission is something id love to be a part of.

Finally, having seen my mum have a successful career within the NHS hearing the impact first hand the impact shes had on her colleagues and patients motivates me to make my own difference and a true impact. My aim is to leave the organisation a better place than when I joined, whether that’s through the work i do or through supporting my colleagues.

Q

Why study the acca

A

ACCA is a globally recognised qualification, and has room for flexbnility across roles and sectors and is also future focused.

the quaification itself is regarded for its real-world application and is very practical in inature in terms of the training which prepares me well for applying my knowleddge in the workplace

ACCA has a strong focus on ethics, governance, and professional judgement (through the Ethics and Professional Skills Module), which allows me to develop the skills necessary to maintain integrity, accountability, and most of all make more principled decisions - all of which I think are essential in the NHS.

Q

U: Benefit ill bring to the organisation/what are they getting out of it?

A

First of all you and the organisation are getting an extremely hard working and determined persion who is very motivated. I consider myself a very gritty person, what i mean by that is having the ability to chase long term meangfaul goals no matter the setbacks- i think that is definetly is something that sets me apart.

and then Combined with a professional finance qualification like ACCA, I will bring expertise, knowledge that ive gained throughout my time here, and high-quality work that aims to achieve the goals of the organisation and makes an impact

looking ahead i will hopefully progress and grow into a leadership role, where I can have not just make an impact with the quality of work I do but also a greater influence on my colleagues and the success of the organisation.

One thing is for certain is I’ll always believe in myself and i wont let the organisation down.

Q

How will i balance work and study?

A

First of all as a person im very organised and goal-orientated, so i think the key will be managaing priorities and keeping organsied through planning, with a consistent routines to balance my studies and workload ALWAYS ENSURING the highest of standards when it comes to both.

Lets say i was faced with periods of signifcant stress or setbacks, which is highly likely in the NHS, i try to attack it at the root and find out exactly what caused the set back or the stress. From here id assess the situation and determine why the setback occured and how i can prevent or mitage it from happening again.Overall i see setbacks as a learning opportunity to grow.

-On a personal level i find running and gym, hobbies im dedicated to, acts as my downtime and clears the head and puts me in a better position straight after. I think balance with things that i enjoy, and also which are good for me are essential for keeping focused and able to perform at a high level.

Q

Why a career in finance?

A

I think it really steps from always having a natrualy act and interst in maths, problem solving and working with numbers maths was always my favoruite subject in schhool always been my favourite subjects, even back in school. I think its the career which aligns best with my skillset and one which wil allows me to make a true impact.

Ive always had an interst in finance itseld which stemmed from highchool when I picked up The Intelligent Investor and took up some courses in stock investing and financial management. I think what drew me in was the fact its not really taught within schools at an early age so i almost wanted to get ahead of the other kids i think.

I said this to glyn recently and i stand by the quote alot, if you cant understand it you cant improve it, and this relates to finance, understanding the financial context behind a decision, organization or whatever it may be allows you to make more informed decisions and ultimately to drive improvement within the organisation. A robust finance team is at the heart of every successful organisation.

Q

U: What motivates me

A

Id say the main thing is to make a difference: I’m motivated by the opportunity to have a meaningful impact within the organisation I work for.

im motivated bu the prospect of helping teammates and colleagues develop, sharing knowledge.

Id say learning in general motivates me I’m. naturally a keen learner, and being in an organisation like the NHS with its broad diversity, expertise, and challenges inspires me to keep growing personally and professioanlly.

Im also motivated by hopefully developing into a leadership position one day, where Ill have the opportunity to have an impact on even more people and outcomes positively.

Q

U: Why ACCA

A

Id say doing ACCA over something like Cipfa gives me that extra flexibilty. I of course want to work for the NHS but having a globally recognised and versitlile qualification n keeps my doors open and gives me security in the long run.

ACCA also provides much deeper training in financial skills. therefore this will will strengthen my overall financial skillset and benefit the NHS through more robust financial expertise and more informed decision-making.

By doing the ACCA equips me with a skillset that is used across both public and private sectors, allowing me to bring a broader and fresh perspective and to apply the best possible practice for that specfici situation into the NHS .

A

Potential for study leave around exams?

I think my key question is having that exposure to more finance related taks so I can cumulatively tick off the 36 months practical experience requirement for the qualification, this could be maybe a day a week initially with the finance team or carrying out a higher number of finance related tasks within commercial

Would you be able to provide more detail for the application process for the band 5 role that you have offered?

How often do you think i could meet with my ‘mentor/supervisor’?
