Q

specific heat capacity practical

A
  1. measure mass of block, wrap in insulating layer
    insert thermometer
  2. measure initial temp of block, set PD to 10V, turn on power supply, start stopwatch
  3. current does work on heater, transfers energy
  4. as block heats, record readings of temp + current every 10 mins
  5. calc energy transferred to heater

16
Q

solid sphere

A

john dalton
atoms are solid, invisible spheres with different elements

17
Q

plum pudding

A

jj thomson
electrons are dotted throughout a positively charged sphere

18
Q

nuclear model

A

rutherford
small, dense, positively charged nucleus at centre with electrons orbiting it

19
Q

electron shells

A

neils bohr
electrons orbit nucleus in fixed shells

20
Q

contamination

A

unwanted presence of radioactive atoms
RADIOACTIVE
- inhalation or ingestion of radioactive sources

21
Q

irradiation

A

exposed to radiation
NOT RADIOACTIVE
- presence of radioactive atoms outside the body

22
Q

irradiation prevention

A
  • thick lead apron
  • step away from radiation
23
Q

contamination prevention

A
  • wear gloves
  • use tongs
24
Q

blue wire

A
  • neutral
  • completes circuit
25
brown wire
- live - supplies current
26
green+yellow wire
- earth - prevent appliance becoming live
