WHAT IS RICER
First aid for up to 72 hours after a sprain, strain or fracture. It can limit swelling and speed up recovery.

Ice - Ice for 20min every 2 hours for the first 48 hours, Ice reduces swelling and localised pain.

Rest - Avoiding movement as much as possible, to limit further damage and immobilise the injured part

Compression - Apply a firm wide compression bandage over the area injured. This reduces swelling and bleeding.

Elevation - Raise the injured body part above the heart where possible. Reduces bleeding, swelling and pain.

Referral - Athlete should be referred to the suitable medical professional for diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.
