A

-Run the exhaust fan for the generators room
-Switch controls to local
-Check oil and cooling water
-Set “battery” and press start
-With the permission of C/E test the load for 30 mins

A

-Deflection in crankshaft
-Piston ring not sealed so hot gasses enter the crankshaft
-Piston liner friction
-Gears driving overheat

Causes of a 2 stroke crankcase explosion

A

-An explosion cannot be caused from the piston liner as we have the feature of a stuffing box blocking any oil and gasses
-If there is a fire in the scavenge area this can heat up the diaphragm and cause a hot spot.

4 Stroke - Mechanical over speed trip, high HT water temp and low LO level.
2 Stroke - Low LO level, low JCW inlet, low JCW pressure

Crankcase overheating procedure (2 stroke)

A

-Speak to the drive and ask to slow down if possible
-Inform C/E
-Stop fuel supply
-Stop engine room ventilation
-Do not open the crankcase doors
-Do not stop the lube oil pump
-Leave the engine room for 30 minutes
-Find the cause of the overheating before starting ME
