Why classify skills?
What is an Open skill
If a skill is dictated by external factors
What is a Closed skill?
If a skill is dictated by the athlete (predictable and stable environment)
What is a gross skill?
A skill that involves large muscle groups/whole body
What is a fine skill?
A skill that uses smaller muscle groups
What is a discrete skill?
Skills with an identifiable start and finish, short in duration.
What is a serial skill?
A sequence of discrete skills, more complicated. Deliberate placement/order
What is a continuous skill?
Skills with no distinct start or finish, they can be continued for as long as the athlete wants and they generally contain repetitive movements.
Simple and Complex Skills
Defined by:
- Amount of info that needs to be processed
- Level of accuracy required
- Level of coordination required
- Time avaliable to perform skill
