2
Q

What does “locking” mean in muscle testing?

A

The muscle resists pressure and holds strong

3
Q

Name one method to help unlock a hypertonic muscle.

A
  • Tapping origin and insertion
  • Pinching body of muscle
  • Waving over NL points
  • Drinking water
  • Getting client to hold 2 fingers on K27 when testing
  • back of hand on client’s forehead
  • Holding sedation point before testing muscle

Q

Common causes of global hypertonicity?

A

Stress, dehydration, emotional overload, medication, electronic devices/crystals on body, not understanding test, not being mentally present for test. Having eaten foods which are biocidic to that individual.

6
Q

Why check hydration when a muscle will not unlock?

A

Dehydration can prevent accurate response to muscle test.

Q

How do you test hydration using the SIM?

A

Find a sim. Tug hair gently, then retest. If the musle unlocks = dehydration.Ask client to take a sip of water and hold in mouth. If SIM locks, the client would benefit from drinking water.

Q

If dehydration is indicated, but Sim remains unlocked after drinking, what could this indicate?

A

Could indicate an injury at site of tugged hair or the need for salts or oils.

12
Q

How is reading stress corrected?

A

Client rubs K27 point and navel for 30 seconds while he/she continues reading (aloud or in head - whatever weakend sim). Sim should now lock when retested.

14
Q

How do you test writing difficulty?

A

Ask client to write a sentence (A quick brown fox…). Client reads over this while Sim is tested. If tracing weakens the SIM, this indicates writing is stressing the system. Ask client to draw fig 8 sideways (coming up in the middle from the bottom on each side). Trace for one minute.

Q

How do you test hearing inhibition?

A

Check range of neck motion first. Client turns head side to side while speaking and testing SIM. If it unlocks, Rub/unfurl ear from top to lobe firmly. Do this on BOTH sides. Restest sim. Neck flexibility should have improved too

16
Q

Visual inhibition

A

We should be able to look in all directions without causing a sim to unlock.
Symptoms: tripping easily, confusing L and R. Dizziness on looking in a certain direction. Can’t stay awake reading, driving makes them sleepy, eyes get tired.

17
Q

How to test for Visual inhibition:

A

Find sim.
Client looks UP - test sim
Client looks Down - test sim
Right -test
Left - test.
If sim unlocks, rub both K27 NL’s and navel while client looks in direction that caused sim to unlock.
If none of the above causes sim to unlock but suspect visual inhibition, try diagonals too.

18
Q

What does MEI stand for?

A

Meridian Energy Interchange

19
Q

Who benefits from Figure 8 work?

A

Everyone, but can be esp useful for people with colds, flu, chronic or post-viral fatigue

20
Q

What cycle nourishes the next element?

A

The Shen (creation/mother) cycle

21
Q

In the five element cycle, what is the controlling cycle?

A

The Ko (control/Grandmother) cycle

22
Q

When would you use tonification?

A

When a meridian is under-energised

23
Q

When would you use sedation?

A

When a meridian is hypertonic or over-energised

24
Q

When carrying out ESR, what might be useful to support the emotional release?

A

Bach Flower Remedies and/or vitamin B complex

25
When treating **fears and phobias**, where are the 3 most commonly used acupressure points?
1. ST1 - under the eyes 2. KID 1 3. SP 1
26
How would you describe Kinesiology to a new client?
Kinesiology is an alternative, holistic therapy that uses manual muscle testing to: - identify emotional, structural, chemical and electrical imbalances in the body and address these using approriate techniques - The principle is that the body works to maintain balance itself, and does so well. However, if the body gets too far out of balance, or is out of balance for too long, it may need some help. - Imbalances, if left, may lead to illness. - MMT is a nerve-muscle response test to a challenge (such as physcial pressure, an emotional thought, or nutrition, for example.) So we are measuring the signal from the brain to the muscle and back again. We are looking for a change in this response as a result of the stressor. It is NOT a test of how strong you are. It is a change in the signal. - Give physcial example. - We are looking for a change in the muscle test. There are two basic responses you will see. 1) Locked, where you can easily hold the muscle and 2) Unlocked, where it is harder to hold the muscle . In which case just let the muscle go.
