- had to pass the exam to become a government official -students must memorize the Confucian text -students studied for 20 years -the exams lasted 72 hours (3 days) - students were locked in private rooms - room were guarded and exam halls were locked to prevent cheating -if you passed you became a scholar official and a respected member of the of the government

Who were the invaders of the Zhou Dynasty!
-in 800 BCE they were invaded by warlike nomads from the north and the west - in 771 BCE Hai, the capital of the Zhou Dynasty was attacked. They killed the king and Zhou moved to the east North China plains. Once the moved the Nobels became very powerful and started calling themselves kings. - the last 200 years of the Dynasty was known as the Warring Kingdoms period or the Warring States period - because of the fighting between the kings and Zhou

Describe the Great Wall and what it was used for
-it was 25 feet high, 20 feet wide and 3,000 miles long -towers roof in the wall through out that reached 40 feet high and were used for sending smoke and fire signals until it reached the capital to warn of invaders - it was used as protection from invaders -people who worked on the wall were mistreated and worked long hours in hard conditions and were kept from their families

- this timber took nearly 30 years to construct and was not finished before he died -it has over 7,000 life size clay soldiers, armed with real weapons. -there were clay horses and wood and bronze chariots -it was designed for the outside to look like an Imperial city

After the Qin dynasty fell there was a fight for power between the peasants, offficals and nobles. King Han won, he was from a poor farming family
